About Surrey Implant Services
Surrey Implant services was formed by Martin Wardle and Paul Johnson in 1992. Paul, as part of his consultant training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery had worked with Mr Geoffrey Forman and Prof Roger Watson, an inspirational surgical and restorative implant team at Kings College Hospital, London. These were early days for dental implants in the UK and they were at the forefront of clinical practice. Martin who was a respected local dental practitioner had a special interest in dental implantology. The partnership was formed to cater for an increasing local demand for this form of dental treatment.
In 1995 they were joined by Dr Anders Hjort, an Oral Surgeon who brought his considerable implant experience to the partnership from Sweden – the home of Dental Implantology. Over the next twenty years the partners treated thousands of patients.
Both Martin and Anders are now retired but the SIS team has been strengthened by the arrival of several new clinicians. Dr Mark Wright joined in 2008. Mark holds a higher qualification in Dental Implantology and is now a partner.
Our increasing workload has lead to the appointment of Dr Nick Lewis, Consultant Restorative Dentist. Nick has extensive implant experience. He teaches on postgraduate courses and lectures widely on implant related topics. Having worked at the Eastman Post-graduate Dental Hospital he is now consultant at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. Dr Jonathon Avenessian joined us in 2017. He is a specialist Oral Surgeon who has also completed the Royal College of Surgeons post graduate qualification in Dental Implantology. Mr Ben Gurney is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial based in Guildford. He has wide interests within the speciality which include Implantology.
